Enfield, London
Whitewebbs occupies the north-western corner of Enfield, running from the New River out to the green belt and the ancient woods of Whitewebbs and Forty Hall's parkland. The character is rural in a way few London wards are, with the whole ward sitting inside a conservation area. Green space is the dominant feature at two hundred and eighty-six hectares, anchored by the sixty-hectare Whitewebbs Wood and the Forty Hall estate. Heritage is exceptional: seventy listed buildings including the Grade I Forty Hall itself (a Jacobean manor house built by former Lord Mayor Sir Nicholas Rainton in the 1620s), its Grade I screen wall and gateway, and the Grade II* Capel House. Air quality is strong. The trade-offs are real. Public transport is moderate — no Tube, with Crews Hill and Turkey Street stations giving limited suburban services — and there are no Ofsted-outstanding schools in nearby reach. This is a ward to live in for landscape, not connection.
