Enfield Town is the civic and historic heart of the borough, centred on the market square and Gentleman's Row. The entire ward falls inside a conservation area, and the 59 listed buildings make it one of the richest heritage sets in outer north London — including the Grade II* Clarendon Cottage, the Grade II* Church of St Andrew Enfield Parish Church, and the Grade II* north-east building of Enfield Grammar School. Only one outstanding-rated school falls strictly inside the ward, but 114 food and 65 non-food venues support a lively market-town high street. New River runs through, providing the ward's best walking corridor. Public-transport access is moderate — Enfield Town station runs to Liverpool Street but there is no Tube — which keeps journey times to the centre longer than many comparable wards. Green space inside the ward is tight, air quality along the A105 is only moderate, and the town is more about heritage streets than parks.
