South Richmond sits on the Thames in the south-east of Richmond upon Thames, covering Richmond Green, the riverside, and the edge of Richmond Park. The town became a municipal borough in 1890 and joined Greater London in 1965. Richmond Green has been described as one of the most beautiful urban greens surviving in England — around 12 acres framed with broadleaf trees — and Quinlan Terry's Richmond Riverside development was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II in 1988.
