London Fields covers the triangle between Mare Street, Broadway Market and Regent's Canal, a dense Victorian ward wrapped around the 12-hectare park that has been common pasture since at least the 13th century. Heritage is exceptional: 44 listed buildings include the Grade II* New Lansdowne Club at 195 Mare Street, a house built around 1697–99 that later served as the Elizabeth Fry Refuge, and nearly half the ward overlaps a conservation area. The downsides are the other side of the same coin: safety scores very low, reflecting the nightlife-related crime along Broadway Market and Mare Street; air quality is middling; and the market has cooled as housing construction lags demand.
