Homerton occupies the eastern end of Hackney, running from Hackney Central towards the River Lea. The ward's historic anchor is Sutton House, a rare surviving Tudor red-brick house built in 1535 by Sir Ralph Sadler, Principal Secretary of State to Henry VIII — the oldest residential building in Hackney and now owned by the National Trust. There are 46 listed buildings including the Grade II* Sutton House, the Grade II* Church of St John and the Grade II Darnley House, with around 20.5 percent of the ward sitting inside a conservation area. Transport is strong: Homerton and Hackney Central on the Overground plus dense bus routes give very good public-transport access, and 47 Ofsted-outstanding schools sit within reach.
