Camden, London
Kentish Town South occupies the strip of Camden between Camden Town and Kentish Town proper, either side of the Kentish Town Road. The area developed from a Georgian village along the old road north, with the Victorian grid filling in between 1830 and 1870; the disused South Kentish Town tube station on the Northern line, closed in 1924, remains a quiet piece of its transport history. The ward has 26 listed buildings including the Grade II* Church of St Luke With St Paul and the Grade II Blustons shop front, with close to half the ward inside a conservation area. Transport is strong: Kentish Town West and Camden Road on the Overground, plus Camden Town and Kentish Town on the Northern line, give very good public-transport access. Around 114 food venues and 119 non-food venues reflect the dense mixed high-street culture, and 33 Ofsted-outstanding schools sit within reach. The drawbacks: green space is minimal at 2 hectares, with Cantelowes Gardens the largest open area, and air-quality scores are poor thanks to the constant traffic on Kentish Town Road. Safety sits below the London median.
