Greenwich, London
PocketsGreenwich Town & Park (Lewisham Road · Blackheath · River Ravensbourne · Greenwich South Street)Greenwich & Deptford Creekside
Greenwich Park ward is built around the 74-hectare royal park that gives it its name, and the entire ward sits inside a conservation area. The park has been enclosed since 1433, making it a very early example of a royal park in London, and the buildings that line its ridge — Flamsteed House, the Ranger's House, the transit houses of the Royal Observatory — are among the most architecturally important in south-east London, with 121 listed buildings in all. The hillside terraces running up from the town centre are Georgian and early Victorian. The park itself swallows most of the ward's green space and most of its drama — a fallow and red deer herd descended from Henry VIII's 1515 stocking lives in a dedicated enclosure in the park's south-east, back in place from spring 2025 after the Greenwich Park Revealed works paused their residence. Housing here is priced well below the West End but well above most of south London. Connectivity is good rather than excellent: the DLR and main-line services at Greenwich and Maze Hill feed into central London and Canary Wharf, with the Cutty Sark at the foot of the hill.

Flamsteed House, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in 1675 for the first Astronomer Royal, was built on the foundations of Duke Humphrey's medieval watchtower and was the first purpose-built scientific research facility in Britain — total build cost £520, twenty pounds over budget.
The Ranger's House on the western edge of the park holds the Wernher Collection, around 700 medieval and Renaissance pieces amassed by the German-born diamond magnate Sir Julius Wernher from 1880s South African mining wealth.
