Selhurst lies in the north-east of Croydon, between South Norwood and Thornton Heath, a tightly built Victorian and Edwardian suburb that grew around the station after it opened in 1865. The ward's best-known feature is Selhurst Park, home of Crystal Palace Football Club since the stadium opened in 1924 on a former brickfield — Archibald Leitch was the architect. There are four listed buildings including the Grade II Selhurst War Memorial and small Victorian shop terraces on Sydenham Road. Transport is reasonable: Selhurst, Norwood Junction and Thornton Heath stations run frequent services to London Bridge and Victoria, with around 12 Ofsted-outstanding schools nearby.
