Woodside sits in the north-east of Croydon between Addiscombe and South Norwood, a residential ward that grew up around Woodside Green — first mentioned in 1332 and named for its position beside the old Great North Wood. A brickmaking industry dominated the area in the 19th century, with Handley's brickworks a local landmark, and the suburban streets filled in steadily after that. The ward has four listed buildings including the Grade II Church of St Luke and Woodside Cottage, and the headline green space is South Norwood Country Park at 54.2 hectares just over the boundary, with total ward green cover reaching 62 hectares. Transport is moderate — Woodside and Addiscombe tram stops plus Norwood Junction give reasonable access — and market scores are strong for affordability. Around 60 food venues line the local roads.
