It was created in 1394 when the larger Farringdon Ward was split in two, and its name still records the original medieval geography. The density of heritage is remarkable: 183 listed buildings including the Grade I listings at Hare Court, Holborn Bars and Dr Johnson's House, with around 65 percent of the ward inside a conservation area. Transport is as good as it gets — Farringdon, Chancery Lane, Blackfriars and the Elizabeth line deliver the highest public-transport access in London.
