St George's covers the area immediately south of the Thames between Waterloo and Elephant and Castle, a ward defined by St George's Circus, the Imperial War Museum and the 1960s and 2010s towers of the Elephant and Castle regeneration. Heritage is strong: 41 listed buildings include the Grade II* Obelisk at St George's Circus — built in 1771 by Robert Mylne and one of the earliest purpose-built traffic junctions in London — plus the Grade II Peabody Estate. Connectivity is at the London ceiling with Waterloo, Lambeth North and Elephant and Castle all inside or adjoining the ward. Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park (6.3 hectares) surrounds the Imperial War Museum and 22 outstanding schools are in reach. The drawbacks are severe: the safety score is at the floor, driven by anti-social behaviour and theft around the Elephant intersection; air quality is weak; and green space, outside the museum grounds, is thin.

The obelisk at St George's Circus was erected in 1771 under Lord Mayor Brass Crosby to mark the completion of new roads across St George's Fields; it was moved in 1905 to stand outside the Imperial War Museum, and finally returned to its original junction in 1998.
