Kensington and Chelsea, London
Brompton & Hans Town covers the Knightsbridge–South Kensington belt, one of London's richest architectural quarters and its most heavily listed ward by count. The whole area falls inside a conservation area, and the 147 listed buildings include the Grade I Victoria and Albert Museum, the Grade II* Harrods, and the Grade II* Brompton Oratory. Knightsbridge and South Kensington Tube stations give very good public-transport access, and 18 outstanding-rated schools fall within the catchment. The food and retail scene — 223 food and 323 non-food venues — is among the densest in London, anchored by the museums, the department stores and the hotel belt along Brompton Road. The downsides are mostly structural for a central luxury ward: pollution scores sit in the bottom fifth of London because of traffic on Cromwell Road and Knightsbridge; green space inside the ward is just 2.4 hectares, with Hyde Park immediately over the boundary; and market affordability is the lowest tier — this is the priciest end of inner London.
