Westminster, London
Little Venice sits in the north-west of Westminster at the junction of the Regent's Canal, the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal and the entrance to Paddington Basin. The name is sometimes attributed to Robert Browning who lived at Warwick Crescent from 1862 to 1887, though Byron is credited with the earlier joke. Around 80 per cent of the ward falls inside conservation area. The 110 listed buildings include the Grade I Catholic Apostolic Church and Church House, the Grade II* Church of St Mary on Paddington Green and the Grade II* Prince Alfred pub, and very good public-transport access links the Bakerloo, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines at Warwick Avenue, Edgware Road and Paddington. Air quality is poor by Westminster standards because of the A40 Westway and Edgware Road, but twenty-six outstanding-rated schools sit within reach and culture scores are strong. Green space inside the ward is very limited at under three hectares, market conditions are very tight, and safety scores sit around the borough median rather than above it.
