The area's name is tied to the old road that appears as 'Perrys Low' on John Rocque's 1746 map, and local tradition links it to pear-brewing for perry. A scatter of 18th-century buildings at 118 and 118A Perry Vale survives from the old hamlet, though most of the streets were laid out between 1901 and 1906 by local Forest Hill builder Ted Christmas. The ward has nine listed buildings including the Grade II Fire Station, the Grade II Christ Church and the Grade II Stanstead Lodge, and the entire ward sits inside a conservation area. Mayow Park at 6.9 hectares anchors 19.1 hectares of total green cover, and 11 Ofsted-outstanding schools sit within reach.
