Ladywell sits north of Catford in the Ravensbourne valley, a Victorian suburb developed through the 1880s by the builder Samuel J. Jerrard around Hilly Fields and Vicars Hill. The whole ward falls inside a conservation area — designated in 2010 — and the fourteen listed buildings include the Grade II* Hillyfields Sixth Form Centre, the Grade II Ladywell Station, and the Grade II School Treatment Centre. Hilly Fields, opened in 1896 after campaigning by Octavia Hill, is the defining green at 19 hectares, with the Ladywell Fields river corridor pushing total green to 33 hectares. Four outstanding-rated schools sit within the catchment, and Ladywell station puts London Bridge within twenty minutes. The downsides are modest: the outstanding-school count is lower than comparable inner-south wards, the food scene runs to 49 venues rather than destination level, and air quality is moderate with traffic on the A205 bracketing the south of the ward.
