Leyton ward sits in the south of Waltham Forest, along the River Lea corridor and the A12. The name means 'settlement on the River Lea', and the Domesday Book of 1086 lists six estates here. Paleolithic implements and a Roman cemetery have been found in the parish, and the current high street grew after the Northern and Eastern Railway reached Lea Bridge in 1840. The ward has eight listed buildings including the Grade II* Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, the Grade II Etloe House and the Grade II Leyton Public Library. Leyton Jubilee Park at 12.9 hectares plus access to Hackney Marshes and the Lea Valley give a generous 29.5 hectares of total green cover.
