West Kensington sits between Hammersmith and Earl's Court, a dense Victorian residential grid that grew on former market gardens and the site of an old archery terrain. The area was developed from 1876 by builders William Henry Gibbs and John Flew, who wanted to create an answer to South Kensington on the market gardens west of the West London Railway. The entire ward sits inside a conservation area, and transport is very good — West Kensington and Barons Court on the District and Piccadilly lines give frequent services into town. Two listed buildings — the Grade II St Andrews Fulham Fields and the Grade II 62-68 Lillie Road terrace — reflect the Victorian fabric rather than any standout monument.
