Hammersmith and Fulham, London
PocketsHammersmith Broadway (Hammersmith Bridge · Furnivall Gardens · Hammersmith Bridge Road · Former Odeon Cinema)
Hammersmith Broadway is the commercial and transport hub of west London, a ward that pivots around the confluence of the A4, the Thames and four Underground lines. Hammersmith Bridge — Grade II* and designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette, opened in 1887 on the piers of William Tierney Clark's 1827 original, the first suspension bridge over the Thames — anchors the riverside, though it has been closed to traffic since 2020 due to structural concerns. The entire ward sits inside a conservation area and there are 17 listed buildings including the Grade II* former Odeon Cinema and the Grade II Temple Lodge. Transport is outstanding: Hammersmith and Barons Court tube stations, plus the bus station, give very good public-transport access. Around 102 food venues and 67 non-food venues pack the Broadway and King Street, and 13 Ofsted-outstanding schools sit within reach. The drawbacks are substantial. Green space is only 2 hectares with Furnivall Gardens the main patch, safety scores are low thanks to nightlife around the Broadway, and air-quality is poor from the Hammersmith flyover.
